Marty Breen is a Northern Rivers-based singer songwriter who likes to label his music ‘organic Australian folk’.

“I’m an Aussie of Irish descent. I want to sound Australian. I want to sing about things that matter to me and to us as a community, and about issues of the day. I want my songs to have a long shelf-life and I want to write songs about things that matter. I hope is my songs are bright, positive and optimistic. I also hope to rattle a few cages with my lyrics” Marty said.

“I remember playing ‘Sweatshop Didgeridoo’ around a campfire in the Alice many years ago, and a fellow asked me to play it again, as he wanted to check if it was blasphemous. So I did. Outraged and shocked, he said, “yep that is absolutely blasphemous”, and went on a long rant. It was obvious to me he had no idea what the song was trying to say. I thought it was awesome and hilarious feedback, which simultaneously went right to the heart of the song, and right over his head.”

I hope people can hear all of my major life influences in my music. The two albums ORIGIN 2006 and ETERNITY 2022 are a collection of singer-songwriter ballads, hopefully mixed in with a bit of light rock and influences from the 1970s-90s. While I mostly play solo acoustic gigs, I absolutely love playing electric and lead guitar on the studio albums and with my band THE LENNOX WAVES whenever I get a chance. There is a modern Irish feel to the second album and artwork, reflecting my take on our family heritage.

acknowledgement of country

I acknowledge the Australian Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples as the Traditional Owners of the lands and waters where we live and work. I honour the unique cultural and spiritual relationship to the land, waters and seas of First Australian peoples and their continuing and rich contribution to Our Community and Australian society.

All songs on “ETERNITY” were written at “IONA”, our home in the Kulpurum catchment on the land of the Turrbul and Yuggera People. Recorded at Airlock Studios on the lands of the Turrbul and Wakka Wakka people.
